Taqueria MAYA

We found good Mexican food in Athens. Taqueria MAYA is downtown, opposite Syntagma. It's on a side street off the main pedestrian drag. Google will guide you directly to it. The owners of Taqueria MAYA moved to Athens from the States a few years ago, and opened this restaurant last year. The food is great and the customer service is fantastic. You can find their regular menu online, but they often have special dishes which they'll advertise on their Facebook page. The restaurant is cash-only, so prepare for that.

Here's the website: http://www.taqueriamaya.com/, and here's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/taqueriamayaathens/.

I took these photos during our last visit, which was a month ago. I've been meaning to tell you about this place for a month. I'm so sorry if you've had an unfulfilled craving for Mexican food for a month. I hope you'll be able to forgive me, but I sort of don't care.

Restaurant interior. I was too lazy to get up and photograph the food behind the case.
It looks really good.

Restaurant interior. There's the front door.
It's never very busy when we eat at the restaurant, because we don't abide by European hours.

This is a series of photos I tried to take while Phil was eating.

He refused to stop eating/reaching for food, so all the photos I got were blurred.

He also made fun of me for taking photos at the end of the meal, rather than at the beginning. I explained to him that I was too hungry at the beginning to photograph it. I don't have the self-control that other instagrammers have.

A lot of people come to Greece looking for Greek food. You should definitely try the Greek food. After you've had Greek food for the third night in a row, and you realize how monotonous it is to repetitively eat Greek food, head to Taqueria MAYA for some spice.
